Standard blind rivets
An open body and a break mandrel form the joint from the accessible side. Dome heads suit general assemblies, countersunk heads require a matching seat, and large flanges spread contact on the visible side.
Features and applications.
For pre-drilled sheet assemblies, covers and components. Check total grip, hole, blind-side clearance and compatibility between body, mandrel and parts. A large flange does not automatically change the blind-side footprint.
What to check
Start from the joint drawing rather than nominal diameter alone. Establish the grip stack, hole tolerances and space for setting. State whether the main load is shear, tension or pull-out from the substrate.
Materials and design
Specify body and mandrel or pin separately, together with head, finish and exposure. Assess contact compatibility for dissimilar materials; request part-specific confirmation for special requirements.
Dome, countersunk or large flange?
| Head | Function | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Dome | Protruding bearing face for general use | Head envelope and sheet contact. |
| Countersunk | Flush face with prepared seat | Angle, depth and remaining part thickness. |
| Large flange | Larger visible-side bearing area | Flange diameter and substrate crushing. |
Selection data.
| Parameter | Required information |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Diameter d, length L, head type and envelope; drawing if available. |
| Grip stack | Minimum and maximum total thickness, layer count, materials and coatings. |
| Hole and access | Diameter and tolerance, through or blind hole, rear access and clearance. |
| Performance | Shear, tension, vibration, any sealing requirement and operating conditions. |
| Documentation | Standard with edition, required test report or document and agreed traceability. |
| Identified example | d × L (mm) | Head D / k (mm) | Hole (mm) | Grip (mm) | Shear / tension (N) |

Values apply only to the listed part numbers. Loads are catalogue figures, not allowable design loads. Ordering requires technical confirmation, drawing and availability. “—” means no value is reported.
Standards and documentation.
For open-end designs, the ISO reference depends on head and body/mandrel combination. ISO 15977 covers AlA/St dome-head rivets; ISO 15983 covers A2/A2 dome-head rivets. Do not extend these references to large flanges or other alloys without documentation.
Frequently asked questions.
When should I choose this family?
For pre-drilled sheet assemblies, covers and components. Check total grip, hole, blind-side clearance and compatibility between body, mandrel and parts. A large flange does not automatically change the blind-side footprint.
How do I choose rivet length?
Measure the stack and select a part whose minimum–maximum grip includes that thickness. Body length and grip are different dimensions.
What hole diameter is required?
Use the diameter and tolerance in the individual part specification. There is no universal allowance across families; check burrs, ovality and alignment.
Is a stainless rivet always suitable for marine use?
Check body and mandrel alloy, exposure, chlorides and joined materials. The words stainless or A4 do not qualify the complete joint.
How can I request a quotation and technical documents?
